The One Lowes Clearance Find That Sparked a Bathroom Update

One of the simplest ways I find great pieces is by stopping into stores that consistently have strong markdowns. Lowes is one of my go-to spots for clearance finds.

Before a tennis match one afternoon, I made a quick stop into one of our local stores—just to see what was marked down.

That’s when I found it.

Scott Living removable wallpaper—originally $50 per roll, marked down to $12.50.

I grabbed two rolls. The color was neutral, the texture subtle, and I knew I’d find a place for it.

The Find: Lowes Clearance Deals Worth Bringing Home

Along with the wallpaper, I found a few more clearance pieces that felt worth taking home:

  • Allen + Roth cellular shades in a deep camel tone for under $15 (some as low as $9, regularly $30+)
  • A white indoor hydrangea for $9
  • A ceramic dog planter with a faux plant for $5

Nothing overly planned—just quality pieces at the right price.

The Vision: A Simple Bathroom Update with High Impact

On the way home, I started thinking about where the wallpaper could work.

Our bathroom has a long wall with one closet opening. It’s a great space, but it always felt like it needed more warmth.

I had already added large thrifted artwork, which helped—but it still felt unfinished.

With only two rolls of wallpaper, covering the entire wall wasn’t an option.

So the idea came together:

A shiplap wall on the lower portion, with wallpaper above it.

Bringing It Together: Shiplap + Wallpaper

We used large shiplap panels from Home Depot and had them cut in-store to fit our wall.

Installation was straightforward:

  • Liquid nails + wood nails into studs
  • A thin trim piece to finish the top edge
  • Leftover white paint to complete the look

Once the shiplap was installed, we added the wallpaper above it.

It definitely takes two people to get it straight and smooth. Our walls have light texture, so we lightly sanded a few areas beforehand.

We installed the trim last so the wallpaper edge sat cleanly underneath.

Does Removable Wallpaper Work in a Bathroom?

This was my biggest hesitation.

With the humidity from the shower, I wasn’t sure how removable wallpaper would hold up.

After a little research, I felt comfortable using it outside of direct water exposure.

It’s now been four months—and it’s held up perfectly.

The Finished Look: A Budget Bathroom Makeover

Since I had a few decorative pieces from the same Lowe’s trip, I used this as an opportunity to refresh the space further.

  • Updated an Ikea cabinet with new knobs and legs
  • Decluttered and restyled open shelving
  • Added the cellular shades to give the windows a more finished look

The space now feels warmer, more layered, and more intentional.

The Refined Takeaway

This entire bathroom update came in at under $200.

The shiplap added structure.
The wallpaper added texture.
The finishing pieces brought in warmth and style.

Like adding a great belt to a simple outfit—it completes the look without overcomplicating it.

Sometimes one great Lowe’s clearance find is all it takes to spark a project that transforms a space.
